1boxred velvet cake mix(cook as directed on box in a 13x9 pan)
1cancream cheese frosting(16 oz)
3containerschocolate melts(milk or white chocolate)
3-4sheetswax paper
Instructions
Mix and cook red velvet cake as directed on box in a 13 x 9 cake pan
After the cake is cooked, cool completely.
Transfer cooled cake to a large-sized mixing bowl and crumble it up using your hands
Now the messy part. Add 1 can of cream cheese frosting into bowl with the cake. You can use a spoon but it is sometimes easier with your hands.
Scoop mixture with a teaspoon or mini ice cream scooper and roll into little balls. ( I find the teaspoon works better) Place each cake ball onto a cookie sheet pan lined with wax paper.
Once all the cake mix is rolled into balls, put the cookie tray into the freezer for a few hours. This makes them easy to dip into the chocolate without falling apart.
Melt chocolate in microwave as directed on container. Make sure to use 50% power or you could end up with brownies instead of chocolate melts.
Quickly dip and roll cake balls into the chocolate and then place back onto the wax paper. The chocolate will harden so work quickly to use all chocolate in container.
Add any toppings such as sprinkles or candies before the cake ball cool.
Wait till cake balls are cool and firm to eat.
Notes
Cake balls keep longer if stored in an air tight storage container and stored in fridge. You can also use any type of cake mix to change the flavor of the cake balls.
