This chocolate chip banana bread is one of the moistest banana breads you will ever taste. It’s loaded with banana flavor and yummy melted chocolate morsels, you will find yourself wanting more than one slice every time! This banana bread recipe is a favorite around our house. When the house is filled with it’s aroma, you can’t help but be put in a good mood. It is so good with and without the chocolate.
How Ripe Should Banana's Be?
Your bananas should be browning to almost brown. The more ripe the bananas the move banana flavor you will taste in the bread. The mushiness of overripe bananas also makes them easier to incorporate into the batter and adds moistness to the bread. In our video, we used a little under super ripe but it still came out really good. The amount of flavor you have depends on the darkness of your banana. We’ve made the bread using both types of bananas and both were kid approved.
Do NOT Overmix!
This recipe can go from perfect to uh oh all by doing one simple thing, over mixing. I can’t emphaise enough to not over mix this batter. Also, do not use a stand mixer or electric mixer. Stick to the good ol’ spoon. Over mixing can cause the center of the bread to droop down. It will also cause the bread to be rubbery and gummy. Keep your mixing to 10 seconds, just when the batter is moistened. The longer you mix the bread batter, the more gluten is developed in the bread.
Baking Supplies You Will Need
We always try out new kitchen tools we find on Amazon but these have become our staples for when we cook muffins. A good quality muffin tin that is easy to clean, and durable glass mixing and ingredient bowls are essential. These muffin liners have held up so well and are dishwasher safe.

Storage and Freezing
Storing: Store any leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature. It is best if you eat it within a couple of days, but it should be good for up to 5 days possibly even longer if you put it in the refrigerator.
Freezing: If you don’t want to eat all of the bread now, you can freeze it. I like to wrap the bread in Handi Wrap then in Aluminum Foil. I then place them in a gallon sized freezer bag and then lay flat in the freezer. You can freeze this bread for up to 3 months. When you are ready to eat it, thaw at room temperature or place it in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds.
Create your own Variation
One of the great things about making your own banana bread is that you have many options to make it your own. If chocolate isn’t your thing you can swap it out for any of the following mix-ins. One of our other favorite combinations was coconut, apples and cinnamon.
