When I try to remember when I was my kids age, it’s hard to remember where I went or what I looked like or what my favorite toys were. Most of my memories are triggered by looking through old photos of me and my family. It’s so interesting how the brain works in this way.
I started thinking how I wanted my kids to be able to remember their childhood, the hardest years to remember. I started taking a photo of them everyday. 1 photo, each kid, EVERYDAY. It started out being planned for 1 year. But now I’m going on year 3!
I organized the photos in a folder on my iPhone with a list in notepad of a tiny description and the number of the day. I’m sure there are many other ways to organize this but this is just what I did.
Take a Photo of Your Kids Every Day
I would take photos of them every day when they would accomplish something, when we went somewhere, when a tooth fell out, or just something random they did that day. The photos I would put in the book are only photos of them. I found this was a great way to be able to focus on them and see their faces change as they grow from day to day and year to year.
Just seeing year one of this project, I can see how especially Heart has changed so much. I can’t wait to see their books now compared to a few years from now. This year will be an interesting book that’s for sure, The Covid Year. Most if not all the photos will be taken at home. Sometimes I wonder if I want them to look back on this year then other times I think, we are making the most of this situation and the photos show how we are having fun as a family so it will be ok.
Chatbooks is so easy to use!
When it is time to print, I use Chatbooks.com where it is beyond easy to upload the images in order from my phone and then use their site to add captions and details. The hardest part is making sure I had all the images numbered correctly but that is my doing, Chatbooks makes the process so easy!
Chatbooks prices are affordable too. They start at $10 for 30 pages with a max of 366 pages. Obviously, a full year will take up the full allotment of pages, and it can rack up the price but I used a father’s day promo code they had running at the time with the upgraded hardcovers and don’t regret the price at all. It is important these will last and be sturdy for the kids and their kids. The quality is amazing and they have a risk free guarantee.
